Lastly, we wanted to actually build the system. We chose top-notch components to make this an uber-high-end gaming rig.
First, and most importantly, an Abit KV8 Pro board utilising the Via K8T800 Pro chipset. The K8T800 Pro is the first real overclocking chipset for the Athlon 64, since it enables you to lock down the PCI and AGP bus speeds whilst increasing the front side bus to clock up the processor.
We paired that up with an AMD Athlon 64 3700+.
ATI hooked us up with their top-end X800 XT PE.
We put in a gigabyte of Corsair Pro Series RAM, which kicked butt in our recent memory group test.
For the internals, we used Akasa modding components. We used green and UV cathodes, as well as numerous drive cables and bits and bobs.
Our favourite PSU right now is the
Ultra X-Connect which we reviewed
here. We stuck in their newest model, which has UV-reactive cables.
